Mind-Body-Intelligence

About the Book

In recent times, meditation and mindfulness have become household words. Many people rely on meditation practices to relieve stress, enhance mental clarity, and to help us be present in our daily lives.

Mind Body Intelligence™ is a unique approach that combines mindfulness meditation techniques, mindful movement, and healing meditation practices, to foster emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. With deep roots in both Western and Buddhist psychology, MBI™ empowers the practitioner to reduce suffering and promote their own healing.

MBI™ practices are approached from three perspectives:

Mind: promoting psychological well-being, the integration and healing of our internal world,
and the ability to be present in the here and now.

Body: understanding the interface between body and mind, and how to influence our physical
health.

Spirit: offering a path to greater self-compassion and compassion for others.

You will learn to access your internal sources of wisdom and begin to engage in a working relationship with your inner characters, such as your Critical Witness. Each chapter contains detailed explanations and suggested meditations.

A workbook is included that offers a basic eight-week guide to establishing your integrated MBI™ practice. You can track your progress, record observations, and find solutions to common roadblocks. Access to online meditation videos and registration for participation in on-line MBI™ classes will be provided.

This easily accessible book explores some of the major sources of human suffering with warmth and compassion. It provides specific meditation instructions for healing the Mind, Body, and Spirit.

In my over 30 years of experience as a practicing psychologist and university professor, I believe
that Mind Body Intelligence would be valuable for many people to read and apply to their lives.”

“It is with pleasure and excitement that I’ve read Dr. Ellen Adelman—an experienced clinical psychologist as well as a meditation teacher—on the subject of what she calls “Mind Body Intelligence.”  Her ideas are clearly timely ones and she communicates them with extraordinary clarity and eloquence.  Her unique contribution lies in her integration of what contemporary science has taught us about the body, brain, and mind with what a 2500 year old contemplative tradition has taught us about the healing power of meditation.  Adelman’s approach is both practical and sophisticated, blending meditation, movement, and the insights drawn from twenty years of practice as a psychotherapist. I expect that her book and CD will have very considerable appeal to a general audience.”
David Wallin, PhD author of Attachment in Psychotherapy 2007

Mind Body Intelligence, by Dr. Ellen Adelman is a significant resource on health and healing to the general public, to health care professionals and specifically to mental health professionals. Dr. Adelman’s, unique integration of the wisdom of Buddhist psychology and western psychology provides a clear path to healing and sanity for those who wish to heal themselves and those who work with others to heal suffering and enhance healthy living. The instruction is logical ,clear and jargon free and as such, is accessible to the general reader. The integration of mindfulness meditation, mindful movement and spiritual path with psychology, offers an approach to healing from a truly holistic perspective. I highly recommend this much-needed guide for both the general public and those health care professionals pursuing self-care while they work to heal others. As the health care, medical and mental health professions carve the path toward integrating Eastern and Western medicine, Dr. Adelman’s book will be a primary contribution on this journey.”
Gloria Donnelly, MSN, PhD, Dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Drexel University Philadelphia PA

“This beautiful book shows us how to embrace life’s shocks and losses. It takes us beyond such buzzwords as “mindfulness” into the territory of living fully without fear no matter what life throws at us…whether or not we are drawn to Buddhism as a formal spiritual practice. In these turbulent times, I highly recommend Mind Body Intelligence as a guide to finding our unique place of inner safety.”
